A first for our family.....

and not the good kind of first either but our first broken bone with one of the kids! At least a first for our 6....Matthew broke his ankle as a kid but that was before I was in the picture!

I didn't see what happened but apparently Owen was swinging on this rope we have hanging from a tree and Evan walked in front of him and got kicked.
Now typically when Ev gets hurt you just give him a quick hug and he is all better but this time he was really crying a lot. We got him calmed down and he ate dinner even though he was still crying out in pain a little and then I laid him on the couch to watch tv and he fell asleep.

During the night he came in my room crying and went back to sleep but would cry out during the night. So the next morning when he was still crying we decided we needed to go to the ER.

Daddy, Luke, Evan and myself headed to the ER, here is Evie just waiting!

Here is the xray! Yeap it's broken!

Ready to go home with his new sling! This was the only time he wore it right, it ended up around his shoulder where he refused to take it off all week, guess it made him feel better having something there!

Today, a week after going to the ER we went to the orthopedic doctor and got this snazzy little sling! This one forces him to wear it right.

He has to wear this for 3 weeks and then we go back for an xray to make sure everything healed up and that's it! The clavicle is the most common bone broken in the body and it usually just heals up fine, obviously it can't be casted! He's been such a trooper!!!!

The first 2 weeks!!!

Luke has been here for just over 2 weeks now and I think the first 2 weeks is usually the transition period adjusting to the newest family member. I know for some people this is a major adjustment for others it's more of an easy going adjustment. I fall in the latter category. Bringing home a new baby isn't very stressful for me, they usually just fit right in. And Luke is no exception for this. My biggest concern was Kinley and while there has been a little jealousy....she has really done amazing considering she lost her title of being "the baby"!

Luke was born a week before the kids got out of school and in the midst of t-ball, baseball and dance so his first week home was super super busy. So we came home Sunday and by Monday we were on the go and we went all week long. We had gymnastics, 2 baseball games, dance class, 2 doctors appointments for Luke, Owen's award ceremony, Katelin's kindergarten graduation, newborn photo shoot and i'm probably forgetting something but it was a non stop week and he was such a trooper!

He came home on Sunday and by Tuesday morning he had only peed 3 times. He already had a doctor's appointment and she said he was dehydrated and we had to check his levels because of his jaundice. He was just below needing the bilirubin blanket. When we left the hospital his weight was 7lbs 14oz and at the doctor he was 7lbs 13oz so not going in the right direction. She told me to supplement with some formula and that seemed to do the trick by the next day he was peeing like a pro and the jaundice was going away!

So there is a brief summary on his first week, week two was still a little busy with activities and such but school was out and the week was definitely calmer....thank goodness! Here are some of my favorite pics from Luke's first 2 weeks.....
