Kitchen.....

A little over 4 years ago we bought our house and 4 acres, it's an older house 30 some years so we knew there would be lots of changes we wanted to make.....of course that takes time and money so we've been doing what we can when we can. We extended the kitchen about 2 years ago but desparately wanted new cabinets. Ours were well built but they were a dark ugly brown that the prior owner had painted white over. They showed all the dirt and the paint was always chipping. It cost a lot of money for new cabinets, even just professionally redoing them is expensive so my sis in law told us about cabinet transformations!

Our kitchen before....

We bought 2 cabinet transformation kits (deglosser, color, gloss, and top coat) for $75 each and with some extra supplies and new hardware we maybe spent $500 on the entire project. The kit includes most of what you need and comes in maybe 40 color choices.

After putting on the color....still just looks painted on.....

then we added the gloss, which I got the privelage of doing all the glossing, lots of work but worth it.....

more of a finished look with the gloss on it.....

a side by side view of without and with gloss.

And after 3 weeks of no doors on the cabinets or drawers in we finally got it done. Chet, my mom and myself worked our butts off and the kids were so good and entertained themselves so well while we were busy with this project......a lot of work but so worth it!

Before and After

And then last week we got a kitchen table and chairs that we all fit comfortably at, we had outgrown our old one. We were going to get a breakfast nook but as soon as we saw them in person we realized it wasn't big enough and definitely would not grow with us.

Now we just want to get new counter tops, possibly redo the floors and replace the dishwasher and oven and the kitchen will be how we want it.....all in due time!

Our next project.....the kids' bedrooms, we have 3 bedrooms for soon to be 5 kids. This is tricky because our kids go girl, boy, girl, boy and girl.....so do we room kids by sex or by age????? Rylie and Owen have always been so close and Rylie doesn't like to be alone so they have always shared a room and the little ones have each had their own room. But Rylie is getting older and I think she could benefit from having more privacy especially from her brother and her and Katelin butt heads way to much to share a room......so I think we will move her into the little room to have all to herself! I think we are going to get bunk beds for the boys to share in the medium room and we can decorate all fun in a sports theme and then Katelin and Kinley will share the big room. We are hoping to get the beds we need and rooms painted and everyone settled before Kinley makes her arrival.....so we will see how all that goes!
