At the time Chet and I were seperated (if you don't know that story, don't worry it ended up being the best thing to happen to us and we are now living happily ever after.) and I was living with my mom. She was at work and I chose not to tell her anything because if you know my mom, she would have been panicking.
I, of course, had Rylie(2 1/2) with me but I also had Haylie(4) and Dylan(14 mo) and Caden (20 mo), so a bit of a full house! My contractions stayed consistent and were becoming stronger as the day went on but sort of quit intensifying in the afternoon so Darcy (Caden's mom) stayed with the kids and Natalie took me to the doctor. I saw Susan, one of the midwives, and she stripped my membranes (Chet is highly disturbed by this term and I think that is just hilarious!!!)
That is all it took, that was about 2:00 and things started rolling from there. My mom got home around 5 or so and we headed to the hospital by 6:00 and I swear she hit every bump possible on the way there.
Jeane is my midwife....I have known her since my pregnancy with Rylie (that was the year she became a CNM),while she did not deliver Rylie, she has delivered the rest of my kids. I can not say enough wonderful things about her, she is just the BEST ever. She helped me through a very difficult time while pregnant with Owen and without her i'm not sure I would have successfully delivered my last two kids naturally.
Anyway, she met us up at Shawnee Mission Medical Center where I got checked in and got my epidural. I had a whole crew of people up there until Jeane kindly kicked them all out so I could try to get some sleep. Sleep never came but I was able to rest. Owen's heart rate kept dipping and all of a sudden they were unplugging my bed, giving me the nasty c-section cocktail, shaving me and ready to wheel me off for another emergency c-section when Jeane told everybody to stop and she had me flip on my side and his heartrate came back up, I kept having to flip from one side to another but it kept his heartrate up and kept me out of the OR. I am forever greatful that Jeane didn't let them do the c-section, I so wanted to experience a vaginal birth and I have been fortunate now to have had 3 successful VBAC's. So Jeane- Thank You!
Midnight came and went and it was finally time to start pushing, I pushed for about 10 minutes and at 1:29am on Wednesday February 2 2005 I gave birth to my beautiful blond hair, blue eyed baby boy. Owen Andrew Farage weighed in at 8lbs 10.5oz. and 20 inches long. My mom, Natalie and Mandy were all there to witness it.
He is named Owen after his daddy (middle name), Grandpa (Chet's dad's middle name also) and Chet's grandpa's first name and Andrew is after my grandpa!
It was absolute love at first sight.....I had expected a baby that looked like Rylie so I was surprised when he came out pale with very blond hair and being such a chunk. Rylie came to meet him later that day and loved him right away and his Daddy came to meet him that night. I took him home 2 days later.
Then after having him home for 2 days Rylie got admitted to Children's Mercy Hospital with RSV and later that day Owen was also admitted. I will share that story another day!
So that is the story of Owen's birth, a story I love, a day that I love! I love this boy of mine more that I could ever express......he has made my life better in every way and has brought joy to me every single day!!!!
